TRIATHLON

KYLE SMITH

TAUPO, NEW ZEALAND

Where do you call home?

I call Taupo home even though I haven't lived there for a few years. I still call it home in my heart.

How long have you been competing or partaking in your sport?

I have been competing in Triathlon since the age of 12, I came into the sport after moving to Taupo and competing in the Tri Sport Taupo club racing and have been hooked ever since.

Favourite event or place to practice your sport?

My favourite event was 70.3 Taupo, IT was my 70.3 Debut in front of my home crowd and managed to take the win, still my favourite day in sport.

What is your focus within your sport (what sub-discipline of your sport do you do most)? Why do you like that aspect the most?

I spend the most time cycling as it is a crucial part of triathlon especially in 70.3 racing but the focus that I'm working on is my running as that's the one of the 3 that is my weakest at the moment.

What is the strangest thing that has happened to you while doing your sport?

Probably been given a 2 minute drafting penalty in a race in France when I was leading the race with no one in front of me.

Do you have a local claim to fame (fittest, fastest, funniest, smelliest, etc.)?

I have a reputation for going way too deep in training and suffering as a result.

Do you promote an annual event or are you involved in a charitable cause?

Pinc and Steel is a charity which is a great cause that helps cancer survivors to get back to their life before cancer through exercise and strength.
